There is always a certain amount of controversy surrounding any chart, as everyone has their own opinion and new models are released frequently. This is more obvious when listing the fastest motorbikes, as most have a limited top speed due to safety regulations. However, here is a comprehensive list of the top 5 fastest motorbikes around, should these regulations be lifted.

At the bottom of our list is the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14 with an impressive 190mph. Released at the Tokyo 2005 show, this is the most powerful bike produced by Kawasaki. Some argue that the Ninja ZX-14 has untapped potential and could reach faster speeds. Forth is the Suzuki Hayabusa, with a top speed of 192 mph. Japanese for Peregrine Falcon, the Hayabusa was the fastest bike in the world when it was first released in 1999. At number three is the BMW 1000RR capable of 200mph. This bike is famed for the advert in which it accelerated on the corner of a tablecloth, pulling it from the table without disturbing the place settings. It won the “Machine of the Year” award in 2010, and would cost around £12,000 for a standard model.

Our top two are both products of Marine Turbine Technologies. The second fastest is the MTT Turbine Superbike, powered by a turbine engine this bike has been known to reach 227mph. Recognised by the Guinness book of records as both the fastest and most expensive bike to produce, it really is in a class of its own. Only its new counterpart the MTT Street Fighter can beat it reaching over 250mph and the top of the our speed list. Released in 2008 this monster has a more powerful engine (420hp) than the older Turbine Superbike. However, there is another contender for the top spot. The Dodge Tomahawk is a concept bike developed in the US. Costing around $555,000 it is rumoured that only nine bikes have been sold. With its futuristic double wheel at the front and rear, it is claimed that the Tomahawk can travel at 300mph; which would place it as the fastest motorbike in the world.
